Die Ringstraße Nr. 1 ist Islands längste Straße und folgt grob dem Küstenlauf, schneidet aber alle großen Halbinseln ab. Sie ist derzeit 1336 km lang und konnte erst 1974 fertiggestellt werden, nachdem die letzten Brücken im Gebiet von Skaftafell gebaut wurden. Heute ist sie bis auf einige wenige Teilstücke über die Berge nach Egilsstaðir und bei Hvalnes asphaltiert, vor einigen Jahren war das nur in der Nähe von Reykjavík der Fall.

Route 1, or the Ring Road was completed in 1974, and is a main road that runs around Iceland and connects all the inhabited parts of the island, with the interior of the island being uninhabited. This paved road is 1,336 km (831 mi) long with one lane in each direction, except near larger towns and cities and in the Hvalfjörður Tunnel (also the site of a toll) where it has more lanes. Many bridges on it, especially in the north and east, are single lane and made of timber and/or steel.

I probably promised you twice that I have finished this series:p

Sorry but I found this version here that suited very well for a mono edit. I croped it a bit too compared to my earlier upload.

I shot this as low as I got on my tripod. I regret that I didnt placed my cam straight onto the ground. With the 14 mm it would have made a great difference I think. I am going back in may so I will try it then.

Also I would like to thank everyone for all the views, faves and comments for the past few days. I have been so much on explore that I am starting to feel I am taking up too much space in here. And today I got my first # 1. Cheers! Sorry for taking all the space:p

I`ll probably have my ban after today:p

Taken with a Canon 1100D with standard lens. Made up of 30 second exposures at ISO-1600, stacked using StarStax.
I took 50 minutes worth of exposures but clouds rolled in after about 35 minutes so I had to omit those, plus 2 were omitted due to low flying aeroplane passing straight through the middle of the shot!

Another shot from my Aurora Borealis outing this new year. I haven’t uploaded this before but I think it might be one of the better ones.

This shot was done at an abandoned chipboard manufacturing plant in Sørreisa, Norway. This is one exposure, no merge. Quick swipe with my Led Lenser to lighten up the factory.This was my second attempt at shooting the Aurora Borealis and I got quite a show. Possible the most fun shooting I have experienced:-)

An aurora (plural: auroras or aurorae; from the Latin word aurora, “sunrise” or the Roman goddess of dawn) is a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere (thermosphere). The charged particles originate in the magnetosphere and solar wind and, on Earth, are directed by the Earth’s magnetic field into the atmosphere. Most auroras occur in a band known as the auroral zone, which is typically 3° to 6° in latitudinal extent and at all local times or longitudes. The auroral zone is typically 10° to 20° from the magnetic pole defined by the axis of the Earth’s magnetic dipole. During a geomagnetic storm, the auroral zone expands to lower latitudes.
